The Platanito Bridge is located on the Durango – Mazatlan highway in the state of Durango, Mexico. The bridge has a total length of 189 m and a curved plan with a 269 m radius. The span distribution is 48+93+48 m and it was built by successive cantilevers. It has a width of 13.6 m to accommodate two lanes of traffic. The deck is formed by a 5 m wide concrete box with a variable depth of 3.9 m at the piers and 2.4 m at the centre of the span. The transversal cant is 10%, and it has been decided to leave the bottom of the box horizontal, generating cores of different heights. The piles are 50.7 and 41.0 m high. They have a hollow rectangular cross-section. The deck is embedded in the piers, with freedom of longitudinal movement at the abutment supports. The earthquake resistance of the bridge is achieved by means of the gantry formed by the piers and the deck. The viaduct was built by means of successive cantilevers, using 5 m long cast-in-place concrete segments.
