This bascule bridge is situated on the land strip of La Manga del Mar Menor, Murcia. It replaces an old metal, swing bridge that hardly solved the increasing vehicle and vessel traffic on their way from the marina in the Mar Menor to the sea Mayor side. The bridge was given a height large enough to allow for an uninterrupted crossing, with the exception of very tall-masted vessels.
The main span of the bascule bridge totals 55.0 m in length. There are two approach spans built upon walls. The transition from the approach span walls to the bascule bridge received a special attention as did the machinery compound. Two curved arches within the walls were designed in order to relieve them visually and enable the passage under the approach spans.
