The connection between Carrer Viladomat, which in this section is formed by a viaduct, and Avinguda del Pesebre, requires a curved street that joins the viaduct with Avinguda del Pesebre. The new road will be located partly over the river Valira del Nord. A layout has been proposed which follows the current terrain and which only has to cross the junction with the current viaduct in the air. The solution adopted for the new viaduct consists of building a cantilevered structure that rests on the edge of the current terrain and overhangs the riverbed. The structure extends into the ground up to a second support that is anchored to the ground by means of active anchors to stabilise the cantilever. The structure is made up of metal beams that are assembled with a crane, supported on the front support and anchored to the rear one.

These beams have a box section with a constant depth of 0.65m, and there is a separation of 2.50m between them. Between the beams, pre-slabs with upper triangulation are mounted, and then the rest of the slab, which has a total thickness of 0.25m, is concreted on top of them. In this way, no formwork is required to build the structure. In the area of the junction with the current viaduct, the beams forming the cantilevers are fanned out to adapt to the shape of the land in that area. The current structure had to be reinforced. It is a prefabricated girder bridge. It was necessary to reinforce the three beams closest to the new viaduct by means of C-shaped reinforced section plates that are joined to the beams by means of pre-stressed bars. The new structure rests on the existing edge beam and is designed to allow for movement between them, which has been achieved by means of large-diameter round bars with tubes. RELEVANCE OF THE WORK

It is a complex link, partly located over the river at a high height above it. The most difficult problem is due to the linking of the largely cantilevered structure with the existing viaduct consisting of simply supported girder sections. In order to give continuity to the new structure with the viaduct, it is necessary to transfer loads between the two structures, which has required reinforcing part of the viaduct beams with plates, and supporting the new structure on the edge beam with the ability to move, which has been achieved by means of large-diameter round tubes.
