RENFE-FEVE railway station in Oviedo. Asturias. Spain. 1997.
The complexity of the rail links in the city of Oviedo, both RENFE and FEVE, led to the proposal to remodel the tracks all around the city, and for this purpose the company Cinturón Verde de Oviedo was created to carry out the projects and works for this transformation. The RENFE and FEVE, led to the remodelling of the tracks all around the city, and for this purpose the company Cinturón Verde de Oviedo was created to carry out the projects and works for the whole of this transformation. One of the main remodelling works was the transformation of the RENFE and FEVE stations, which posed a particularly difficult urban planning problem, because there were two stations, RENFE and FEVE, which were close to each other, but in independent areas with no communication between them. The two stations have been moved to a common space, which was the old RENFE station, and all the tracks adjacent to them have been covered at the same time, with a slab that has created a large urban space above the station, mainly for pedestrians, but which has also allowed new road traffic connections and a new access to the station.
The main structures of the new station are as follows: 1. The station roof, which has an area of 35,000 m2. 2. It is located above the platforms, serves as a common lobby for the RENFE and FEVE stations, and is connected by stairs to all the platforms. It hangs from the roof. 3. The roof of the accesses to the two stations from the new plaza above the station.
