The cable-stayed bridge crosses Shiraz’s Vali-Asr Square with a 100 m span. It incorporates two approach ramps to the cable-stayed bridge. The length of the approach spans is 540 m on one side and 72 m on the other. The clearance over the square is 5.5 m. The cable-stayed bridge has a single 61 m high inclined tower that supports the main span by means of a cable stay consisting of two planes of central parallel cables and is balanced by two sets of stay cables anchored in two lateral counterweights. The arrangement of the anchorages in the tower and in the counterweights causes the rear cables to describe a warped surface similar to a hyperboloid. The deck is supported by four piles, two at its west end and two at its east end. In addition, the deck is embedded in the tower and in two additional piles, which are solidly attached to the tower and stiffen it against torsion. Due to the importance of seismic forces, the deck is embedded in all the piers and its movements in the abutment are prevented both vertical and transverse movements.
