The extension of the Atocha station is a singular work, composed of different structures that are also singular, especially the main roof, which is a complex structure with hyperbolic paraboloids.<\/p>\n

The station expansion work has been carried out trying to minimize as much as possible the interference with the railway traffic, which could not be completely cut at any time. This has complicated the work and has involved making all the structures sequentially, so that the platforms were cut in pairs, then the new structures were made, and once they were finished, traffic was given to those platforms and the next two were cut. <\/p>\n

The new work consists of the following main parts:<\/p>\n

I – The vestibule over the tracks, resolved with a conventional structure that allows access to the platforms by means of stairs and ramps.<\/p>\n

II – The main roof over this hall is formed by modules of 16x16m. with a roof solution with oblique skylights, which give rise to a complex structure, with hyperbolic paraboloids materialized by means of beams in one direction. <\/p>\n

III – Platform roofs between the hypostyle hall and the new main roof, with continuous linear structures and skylights between platforms. This roof is also covered with pillars placed in a 16\u00d716 grid. <\/p>\n

IV – The structure of the new arrivals hall with a sawtooth roof that also covers the cantilevered cab waiting area.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
