The cable-stayed footbridge of Marqu\u00e9s de Zafra wins the Caminos Madrid Award for Research and Innovation 2025<\/strong><\/h2><\/span><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>We are pleased to share that the integral rehabilitation of the cable-stayed footbridge of Marqu\u00e9s de Zafra has received the Caminos Madrid Award for Research and Innovation 2025, granted by the Colegio de Ingenieros de Caminos, Canales y Puertos – Demarcaci\u00f3n de Madrid.<\/p>\n
This recognition highlights the value of a project that is especially significant for our team, both for its technical complexity and for the emblematic nature of the structure, designed 50 years ago by the engineer Javier Manterola, one of the most influential figures in Spanish structural engineering.
\nThe project has made it possible to restore the functionality and guarantee the long-term safety of the footbridge, maintaining its original design through innovative solutions that have included the complete replacement of the stay cables with state-of-the-art systems and the implementation of a continuous structural monitoring system, all while the infrastructure is in service and minimizing the impact on the urban environment.<\/p>\n
We would like to thank CAMINOS MADRID<\/a> for this recognition, as well as Madrid Calle 30, S.A.<\/a> represented in the D.O. by Luis Benito Olmeda<\/a> and Jos\u00e9 Antonio Morena, for their trust, direction and commitment to the preservation of this footbridge that is part of the city’s heritage as the first cable-stayed footbridge in Madrid. Congratulations also to the UTE Constructora formed by Freyssinet Espa\u00f1a S.A.U.<\/a> and ImesApi \/ Api movilidad<\/a> for seeking excellence in their work. We do not want to forget the previous inspection and project drafting work carried out by LRA INFRASTRUCTURES CONSULTING<\/a>.<\/p>\nThis award is a stimulus to continue working in the conservation, rehabilitation and innovation in structures, contributing to prolong the useful life of engineering heritage with the highest technical standards.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>
