On July 27, 2026, the Gordie Howe International Bridge<\/strong>\u2014a new strategic link between Windsor (Ontario, Canada) and Detroit (Michigan, United States)\u2014was officially opened to traffic.
\nThe bridge is named after Gordie Howe, a legendary Canadian hockey player and Detroit Red Wings icon, whose career symbolizes the close ties between Canada and the United States.<\/strong>
\nThe first car to cross the bridge was a red Dodge Charger driven by Gordie Howe, grandson of the legendary hockey player, accompanied by his wife, Margaret.
\nWith a main span of 853 meters, it is the cable-stayed bridge with the longest span in North America.<\/strong> The structure has a total length of approximately 2.5 kilometers, features 220-meter-tall towers, and has six traffic lanes.
\nThe new bridge establishes a direct connection between Ontario\u2019s Highway 401 and Michigan\u2019s Interstate 75, strengthening one of North America\u2019s most important trade corridors and facilitating the movement of people and goods between the two countries. In addition, it features a separate lane for pedestrians and cyclists, which is scheduled to open on August 5.

(CFC), a member of ARX | smart minds,<\/strong> is proud to have participated, alongside fhecor<\/strong>, in the design of the main bridge and the engineering of its superstructure\u2019s assembly, as part of the design team led by AECOM<\/strong> for Bridging North America (FlatironDragados, Fluor Corporation, and Aecon Group Inc.)<\/strong>.
\nThe opening marks the culmination of years of work, technical expertise, and international collaboration.
