The bridge over the Bay of Cadiz has a total length of 3092 m and crosses the bay from the city of Cadiz to Puertorreal. The main bridge is a cable-stayed bridge with a main span of 540 m, compensating spans of 200 m and a navigation gauge of 69 m. During the design phase, different alternatives were studied in order to adequately match the span distribution of the entire bridge with the height of the grade and piers in order to achieve a satisfactory result given the urban nature of the entire project. The bridge itself can be divided into four different spans depending on their different functional characteristics. The four sections described are one after the other, starting at Cádiz and ending at Puerto Real. – Access Viaduct section on the Cadiz side, corresponds to the access to the main section, from the Cadiz side; length 580.0 m. – Detachable section; length 150 m. – Main bridge section, is the cable-stayed bridge located over the navigation channel and its cable-stayed offsets; length 1,180 m. – Access Viaduct section on the Puerto Real side, corresponds to the access to the main section from Puerto Real; length 1,182 m. The total length of the bridge is 3,092 m. It is one of the longest continuous bridges in Spain and one of the largest bridges in the world.
